Can anyone give me one good reason for us to still have troops in Okinawa?

I see the people who live there want us out over an incident with our troops. I do think it has been a while since WW2 and I doubt if the Soviet Union is going to invade the pacific. Some may say China is a potential problem. But have we not learned yet we cannot be the police for the entire world? But I see no reason whatsoever for us to have troops thee and in fact, I wonder why we have them all over the world. It seems to me that if we had left the entire Middle east to its own civil wars, we might be a lot better off today. I do think Teddy Roosevelt was correct in saying walk softly and carry a big stick, but he did not say patrol every street in the world. In any event, I see no reason to have military forces in Okinawa.
