ISista, ISilli, whatever, they don't want to mess with the Kurds. The Kurds have been fighting and longing for independence ever since the British and French arbitrarily carved up their homeland into pieces of Turkey {no pun intended}, Iraq, and Syria.

They are a trading partner and ally of Israel, the only one in this region of the world, and were brutally oppressed by Saddam-- poison gas, genocide, etc. They sit on some very, very rich oil deposits and in the midst of this power vacuum have taken over some Iraqi cities with huge refineries.

I, for one, hope they come out of this mess with a nation of their own, some oil wealth to boot, and a very large and ancient Christian population {which has been displaced, again brutally-- conversion, confiscation, or death-- by ISIS}. The sad thing about this attempted 'forced conversion' is those who chose to flee the cities under Isis's control and not submit to their false god had their vehicles raided at the checkpoints... and everything of value stolen. Any gold, any goods, any money, even clothes and shoes. Make no mistake, Isis is not just oppressed Sunnis; it's a mixed bag of bloodthirsty scumbags from all over the Muslim world, including Europe. You do not want to be under 'Sharia'.

You mentioned the magic word. Oil. If there was no oil in the middle east, we would not have a single soldier there.
I say, let them break up into as many nations as needed to have their own country and then forget them. All of them.
