Reasons:
1. Excellent coach pedigree
2. NBA AC and HC experience
3. Won 2 NC's at DIII
4. Proven recruiter at Arizona, Oregon, and St Johns
5. International coaching experience and recruiting ties
6. Recruiting ties nationwide, but especially in California, New York, and North Carolina.
7. Is rebuilding a TERRIBLE Loyola Marymount program very quietly.
8. In coaching circles, he is extremely respected and considered one of the top minds concerning the Motion offense and his unique 1-1-3 pressure zone defense. He has several scholarly articles on both as well as player developmental skill building.

I consider #5 and #8 to be the most appealing thing about Dunlap. We need to do something different to compete. Nobody runs a 1-1-3 zone in the SEC. This makes it very hard to prepare against. Also, his player development is suppose to be off the charts. Furthermore, recruiting players from Europe and Australia targets recruits without biases against Arkansas. Other programs have built this way including Seton Hall in the 1980's and 1990's. This does not mean we stop recruiting the USA. But Dunlap provides international reach and contacts we have not had in 25 years or more when Nolan dabbled in the international teams.

Now, his record at LMU is not going to be impressive. This team was in shambles when he arrived. He then kicked off half the team (including his top scorer) and had a team of basically walk-on's last year. This year, 11-wins currently. Not impressive unless you consider that his team is a total rebuild. But watch them next year. This team plays hard, they just lack depth and experience. I think next year will be much more impressive. Kinda like his experience with the Charlotte Bobcats. It is hard to penalize him for being a HC at the Bobcats too.

I am not saying be impressed today. I am saying to put him on your radar and watch the team next year. If MA folds, he needs to be on the list.

Here is an article regarding his hire and the immense challenges he faced: http://grantland.com/features/mike-...hers-paul-westhead-charlotte-bobcats-hornets/
