Anybody else glad this is in Mississippi and NOT

this thread won't be around long but I have no opinion really. To each his own.

I always think about recruiting and I think it would be used against us

It doesn't fit the modern narrative, but I like it because of that.

History is history. Removing statues and renaming streets doesn't remove the past. Ask every failed authoritarian society how trying to erase or rewrite history worked for them. It didn't. Even in modern North Korea, the people are able to slowly find the truth.

Study it, learn from it, and move on. The absence or ignorance of information is never a positive.

I live in the very historical town of Vicksburg and Confederate history is celebrated all of the time. We don't need a designated month to recognize this subject. Silly and unnecessary if you ask me.

It's really one of those things where government agencies should probably just pass it by. If individuals want to remember, celebrate, etc...so be it. But otherwise, pass it by.
We can't change history. It is a part of who we are and most Arkansasans did what they thought was right at the time. I went to a high school that was integrated while I was in junior high. We all became friends and accepted each other for who we were with little conflict. We are all still friends. Respect for each other can go along way.

Statues and street names aren't intended to remind us of the past. They're supposed to honor the past. I don't see anything wrong with a society changing its environment to reflect perspectives and values we currently hold dear.

most people have very little knowledge of the subject they are ranting about

They have every right to feel how they feel............it just gets frustrating trying to get them to gather a deeper understanding of the subject they are so adamant about :)

I have done my share of.............back tracking :)

Removing them is akin to erasure. You can erase and rewrite all you want, but it doesn't change what happened. It may lead to forgetfulness, and forgetting where you came from can lead to you going back. There's a severe lack of respect for history. It's concerning to me.

SOME Muslims destroy all the history and culture of a place they invade.....very soon after they arrive.

I really hate that. Once gone , many things can never be replaced

Basically it gets back to the PC crowd where everything is offensive

It's one thing to study about the confederacy in school...and it's another thing to still honor the confederacy. The south needs to let it go and take pride in what we have now...not look back.

And you're right...we can't change history. The south (where I was born and raised) was on the wrong side of that war. We should accept that and move on.

But is it fair to blame every brave Southerner who boldly stood up to an invading Army?

It was a totally different world and it is not fair to judge folks then based on the world today.

In one way that would be like me judging some blacks as savages from the jungle because that is where they came from.

The problem is that schools do a poor job at teaching History and thus people try and relive it instead of learning from it.

To allow people to believe another is a racist JUST because they are proud of a piece of cloth is not right.

Black History month is a Fail when it does not include all the patriotic blacks from our very beginning as a nation and leaves out most of the stories about the suffering many whites went through to free them

I don't hate the people of Japan because of the stories older people tell about the 'Japs' of the 1940s

But that's the problem. We, as Southerners, have been made to somehow feel guilty about a war that happened 150 years ago...and nearly every American living that had ancestors fighting in that war, had ancestors fighting on both sides. Anyone who points fingers at one side, has to point them back at themselves. Just because we grew up in the south...or if you grew up in the north...it doesn't give one side now any superiority over the other.

We should stop feeling guilty...put the "South Will Rise Again" stuff behind us...and just keep rising. The South already is a great place of opportunity and so many people from all over the nation move to the South...because it's awesome!

The kind of difference I think matters no Ar stories warning people to filter their water for lead no Zieka virus. I am happy for all things that show Ar is superior to Ms.

We still have slaves in the south and the north and everywhere.
Pimps beat there properties of women daily.
Child trafficing for sex slaves are beat and sold by the hour.
We live in a society that has some sick disgusting people that when they get caught we should not have to feed and house them save the money and open Judge Parkers Court House back up.
To read what is in the Mobile register sometimes can make you sick.
Just last week a Computer teacher in Alabama got busted for taking several trips to Taiwan to have sex with young boy's and finally got busted because he beat and abused one of the boys and he went to the Taiwan authorities.
This guy has been teaching at the high school for 15 years.
Needs to be put in front of a firing squad in open public .

You'd be surprised at how little most people know about history.. Confederate or otherwise.
No I'm not surprised. I'm a huge history buff and I'm shocked with the lack of knowledge some people have regarding our country's history. We can also have pride as southerners and honor the brave men that fought for the south while acknowledging that the cause they fought for was wrong.
