After losing Braylen Russell's commitment in Nov. 2022, Arkansas has stayed firmly in the mix for the Benton four-star running back in the class of 2024.
Russell's recruitment has been highly-contested, and he is choosing between Arkansas, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Baylor and South Carolina on July 14. He took an official visit to Arkansas over the weekend after competing in a 7-on-7 tournament during the week.
Russell said his time with the coaches and the players is what stood out during his official visit.
"Being with coaches always stands out when I come down here," Russell said. "I got to hang out with AJ Green a lot and kicked it with him. That was a nice experience. I always watch him play but never talked to him or anything."
The Benton native said the highlight of his trip was getting the chance to connect with Green, who was one of Arkansas' main running backs last season.
"Probably hanging out with AJ Green, being around him and him telling me how good Arkansas is, how the atmosphere in general," Russell said. "Really we were just talking in the car, talking about Arkansas. This was my first time meeting him, so it wasn't anything big. It was just being around him was cool."
Russell said Arkansas is in pretty good standing, and it helps that the Hogs are the home-state team.
"They stand pretty good," Russell said. "I mean, it's home. Home is always going to be home. I'm just looking for that place where I can be around who I want to be around for 4 years. That's always good."
As a junior, Russell recorded 1,827 all-purpose yards and found the end zone 27 times. He helped Benton to a 10-3 record, finishing the season in a 31-24 loss to Greenwood in the playoffs.
Russell is set to announce his decision on July 14, and will pick between his Top 5. He said he's ready for the process to come to a close so he can focus on his senior season.
"I'm going to be relieved," Russell said. "I just want to enjoy my senior year and play without having all the coaches hassling me about where I want to go, when I want to commit. The stress level is going to go down so I can just enjoy my senior year and play football."
