Arkansas baseball's season ended Monday, which means the offseason has officially begun.

One major factor of the offseason is the transfer portal, which has played an enormous role for head coach Dave Van Horn in previous seasons. Fan favorites like Jace Bohrofen, Jared Wegner, Tavian Josenberger and Hunter Hollan all transferred to Arkansas from other programs.

With starting shortstop John Bolton out of eligibility, the Razorbacks will need to find a replacement at the heralded position.

Cooper Weiss, a shortstop from Miami (OH), confirmed to HawgBeat that he will visit Fayetteville on Thursday of next week. The Fort Myers, Florida, native will be transferring for the second time, as he was previously a member of the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers before transferring to the Redhawks for one year.

During the 2023 season, Weiss started in 53 games. He had a .303 batting average with 15 doubles, one triple and 12 home runs. Batting in the two-hole for most of the season, Weiss accumulated 46 RBIs, which ranked second on the team. He also led the team in stolen bases with 17.

Not only a good offensive player, Weiss was stellar in the field as well. He was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year and was also placed on the MAC All-Defensive Team after only committing two errors all season.

Weiss started in 75 games during his time at Coastal Carolina from 2020-2022. In 2020, he was named the Most Impressive Freshman in the Sun Belt Conference by D1Baseball and was recognized as a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball after leading the team with a .372 batting average in the pandemic-shortened season.

In 2021, Weiss was tied for the league-lead in triples with four total. In 2022, Weiss saw playing time at first base, third base and designated hitter while hitting for a .222 batting average with one home run and 12 RBIs.

With a glaring need for the shortstop position, bringing in an experienced player with the ability to impact the game defensively, offensively and around the base paths would be a huge boost for the Razorbacks going into the 2024 season.

Weiss will have one more year of eligibility at his next stop as a grad transfer.
