I know that the game got lost on people who focused on football recruiting today. But the Razorback basketball team actually played a hell of a game in a close loss at Florida.
Before the season started I thought that Mike Anderson would give one of the best coaching efforts of his career. The record doesn't reflect that at this point, but the team is playing above their heads based on the talent level that we thought we had going into the year. We very well could have won five or six more games this year if we got a lucky bounce here or there.
The announcers on ESPN mentioned how we are a feared team. And I think they are right. I think we can compete with just about anyone in the country, on any given night. If by a miracle we would make the NCAA tournament we would be a nightmare draw in the first round for somebody.
It makes me sick to my stomach to think about this team with both Bobby Portis and Michael Qualls on the roster. Who knows, maybe some of the other players would not have developed. But with the shooters in Anthlon Bell and Dusty Hannahs, and the superb point guard play of Jabril Durham, I think we could have been a final four contender.
People who want to give up on Mike Anderson at this point are a bit premature in my opinion. He is a heck of a coach, and he gets the most out of his players. Arkansas isn't recruiting at the top like we need to be, but every once in a while the pieces will fall into place and Mike will ride that pony to the finish line.
Even in a loss, a great game by the hogs on the road. I like a lot of what I saw from players all over the court tonight. The season will not end up like I had hoped, i.e. in the NCAA tournament, but this is a team and a coach to be proud of.
