I don't care where you stand on Pittman and the level of job security he ought to have. The BYU loss is going to be hard to come back from.
It's almost impossible to see us coming out of the next month of football with a win now that we know the cards we're playing with. After that, Mississippi State, Auburn, Florida, and Missouri will all present challenges for us. I'm not saying it's the only win left on our schedule, but the FIU game is the only one we can call a win with any degree of certainty.
Even if you think we're better than 2, 3, or all 4 of the SEC teams on the back portion of our schedule, what's this team's morale going to be like going into them? Mississippi State is before the bye week and after a month of being away from Fayetteville. Going to Florida on the road as a 2-6/3-5 team will be tough. Auburn and Missouri look better than we do so far this season. It just is hard to find the sunshine.
There's an honest chance we don't get bowl eligible. If we fail to catch any momentum down the stretch, don't make a bowl, and fail to make ourselves an attractive destination for transfers, then Pitt will be on a downhill slide he can't get out of.
I don't think there's a scenario where Pitt is the coach in 2 years if he doesn't find 3 SEC wins, and I just don't know that this team is capable of that. Saturday was pivotal.
