The following is a list of key notes out of Wednesday's media teleconference with Razorback head coach Bret Bielema.
"Little bit of a reference to last year, this is a rematch game," Bielema said. "Our players more than anything realized on Saturday you can't just show up and throw the helmet on the field and expect to have success.
"Sunday they were very humble, as coaches we were very humbled, and Tuesday was one of our best practices of the year, going back to last spring."
- On Jared Cornelius's second half play after being suspended, Bielema said it's all about how players react, and Cornelius handled it the right way in practice and in the game. Cornelius has said it will never happen again. Saturday's loss was a learning experience for a lot of people, Bielema said.
- Regarding taking what the defense gives them, Bielema said they've defined themselves at points as running the football no matter what is going on. But to play a good team that's coached well like Texas Tech, he feels they have to be opportunistic and still strive for balance. He's very happy with the growth in the passing game and how they're protecting the quarterback, but they had success last year because of the way they ran, and they haven't run it well. He still wants to strive for balance, but that does include being able to run the ball.
- He said Texas Tech scores very quickly. A big thing Saturday is going to be about getting the Tech offense off the field and use the clock and move the ball when their offense is on the field.
- Toledo did some things they haven't done in the past with regard to movement and moved bigger players in at linebacker, but it's nothing they haven't seen before and should have responded better. Bielema said when they look at the game it's the perfect example of how to lose a game. He said there were six times where if players had kept their feet they would have been in the end zone. He also noted the six holding penalties.
- The main element that was missing Saturday in all phases was physicality, he said. He looked at his notes from last week and noticed he never once mentioned that word, physicality. He said he made the mistake of assuming his players knew that based on the team they have been. That has been a major focus this week.
- Denver Kirkland did not go through practice Tuesday but will go through practice today. He went through an extensive cardio workout Tuesday. They may limit him a little today to see how he responds, but they fully expect Kirkland to be out there Saturday.
