Typical for there to be several southern states in that type of study. High rates of obesity, poverty, and high school dropouts but I wouldn't want to be from anywhere else.
Don't waste your time. Brainwashed.Yah for all the southern pride, it's u fortunately not the best area of the US to live in. There are some nice places, but overall it's statistically not good.
I agree especially in the agricultural areas but IMO the people are the best in the country. Generally speaking.Yah for all the southern pride, it's u fortunately not the best area of the US to live in. There are some nice places, but overall it's statistically not good.
Genius.Don't waste your time. Brainwashed.
I find people are nice everywhere, generally speaking.I agree especially in the agricultural areas but IMO the people are the best in the country. Generally speaking.
That's true of anything. The south ranks highest in obesiety and diabetes, shorter life spans, lower rate of insurance, and is generally speaking the least educated area of the country. Al that combines to make it a poor place to live. Are there things I love about the south and places I've been that I liked? Yes. But it's hard to argue that states like CA, NY, etc aren't better places to live. People have what's generally accepted to be a higher quality of life than in the south. Ones preference for the south doesn't change stats that show the negative aspect to living there.Every bit of a poll like this is subjective. Change the metrics and New York, California and Illinois will be at the top.

Everybody should take pride in which region of the country their family originates from. There are wonderful people across this country but in my profession I have had the opportunity to speak to many people from all across this great land of ours and southern people tend to rank amongst the most hospitable on average. Just my personal experience.I find people are nice everywhere, generally speaking.

It's not just Arkansans. The sense of community in the south creates a friendly atmosphere. There are fewer metropolitan areas that give our region a feel of togetherness that the east and west coast can't duplicate. I challenge anybody to find a region of the country where most people speak to you as walk down the street. Doesn't happen.I've lived in most regions of the country and I would agree that I found Arkansans to be the friendliest on the whole.
Don't get me wrong, I've found Arkansans and southerners to be very friendly, down to earth people. What I've found is we don't have a monopoly on that. By and large, everywhere I've got I've met friendly, nice people. A lot of that "Southern Hospitality" is also a bit of little man syndrome this area of the country has. You hear it with the hospitality, or how good a business school Arkansas has, or what a great Children's hospital we have. The stats don't bear those out but we say that b\c I think deep down we know it's poor, etc and nobody wants to dump on where they came from. Have to say, I prefer if most people don't speak to me as I walk down the street. I'm walking down the street because I have someplace to be.It's not just Arkansans. Yeah, it happens in all of these threads. I went to central, have been all over the city. Had a girlfriend that lived in western hills off of Asher. If you go looking for trouble you can certainly find it, but I've never had an issue. Not one time. @razorbacksyall talking about getting robbed going to a restaurant is dramatic, no two ways about it.Bunch of people being real dramatic about Little Rock. Lived there my whole life and went to school in one of the worst parts of it and never feared for my safety one time.
I haven't even bothered to look, but I would wager that they are mostly "red states". Anything with an "NBC" in the title...leans a bit left...
Not necessarily a monopoly but the amount of people who have moved to the south that I've spoken with have verified these generalities. There is a cultural unity that people from the south feel that is unique to this region. There are a lot of problems but I wouldn't trade our problems for Detroit's, NYC's, Philadelphia, etc. It is also what makes SEC football great because the lack of population has kept pro sports out of the region leading to a love your state university. Disagree if you want but these are the historical facts that create an atmosphere conducive to winning football in the south.Don't get me wrong, I've found Arkansans and southerners to be very friendly, down to earth people. Serious question....
I have never noticed smog or bad air quality? Am I drunk? I mean 1/2 of the state is trees, 1/4 farmland, 1/8 cities and 1/8 water.
Did they just blow smoke up my assfault or does our air quality really suck?
Trust me the 5 or so months we've been in LA people have commented on the "down to earth"/nice/polite of me and my fiance. I agree on the unity comment. We have an us against the world mentality that I haven't found other places. NYC is awesome. I could bring up plenty of crappy southern cities to put next to Detroit. Not necessarily a monopoly but the amount of people who have moved to the south that I've spoken with have verified these generalities. You may be right but the level of ridicule that has been cast on southern people for the last 160 years has created a defensive attitude toward the rest of the country. Some of it warranted some of it not. But the result has been a regional pride that makes us unique. Oh I agree about the ridicule. The problem is that our accent is associated with being uneducated. Some of that's fair and is in line with the stats. That's kind of what I was getting at with the little man comment. We puff our region up b\c we're ridiculed for being poor and uneducated (which is partly true). The problem I have is that we act like it's not true which prevents us from ever doing much about it.You may be right but the level of ridicule that has been cast on southern people for the last 160 years has created a defensive attitude toward the rest of the country.
