Losing sucks! Everyone gets mad at the world and many of us can’t see the forest for the trees. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a little shocked I woke up feeling this way but….
Coming into this season, I looked at this stretch of away/neutral site games and I said we’d be lucky to win one but we could easily come out 0-4. Rational me looks at our record and says “You knew we were capable of winning or losing all 4 of those games”. If I consider that, we are only one game off (BYU loss) of where I, and I think many others, thought we could be.
Have there been game management decisions that have left us scratching our heads? Heck yes. Have there been 4th down decisions that have pissed me off? Yes. We’ll never know the outcomes of those plays so why ponder them?
So…This is where I am the morning after we were once again less than 7 points from a huge victory. We are one game back facing a remaining schedule that is tougher than I thought it would be. Miss State should be a victory. Florida looks pretty good and we are there. Another toss up. Auburn should be a win. FIU is a win unless the wheels fall off. Missouri…I hate to say it but yikes. Glad we have them at home.
I’m not making excuses but I’m going to be in the minority and keep pulling for Pittman. I mean..The 5 games we’ve lost have been by less than 7pt average. Could we have different outcomes if in-game decisions would have been different…we don’t know. For example, I wanted him fired immediately after punting on 4th and nothing yesterday…but if he would have gone for it and the mighty Alabama D stopped us, they would have had a short field. That decision gave the defense a chance to keep us in the game and in-turn, our offense a chance to put us within 3. So…was it a terrible decision?
We are in a tough place. No one can disagree that our O-Line is much worse than we expected but our defense (other than 3 blown coverages yesterday) is pretty dang good.
I’m going to hang in there for now. If we lose to Miss State, you’ll find me in the game thread begging HY to fire Pittman. Ha! 😂
