I was blessed to attend the memorial service for Mike Scott today. He played for Holtz during the 70s. He was a walk on from LRHall who earned his scholarship. He was the last QB put in the game against Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl. He holds the honor of being the only Razorback QB to defeat a ranked team without attempting a pass (Ok State I think they said). Robert Ferrell and Kevin Scanlon each spoke wonderfully and eloquently about a very kind Christian man who made innumerable positive impacts on their team, the Razorback program, Stephens Corp, and numerous others. Houston Nutt was in attendance as well. Mike was no super star Razorback but was a super star person. It was surprising to hear stories from Mr. Ferrell and Scanlon how a scout team/backup guy made a difference and was a leader on what were some truly talented teams back then. I don't post much but wanted to share this. I was proud to hear these stories. There truly is more to college athletics than winning and losing, getting to the next level, etc. I thought of Coach Bielema's "Uncommon " emphasis. It can and does make a difference in a greater, bigger game called life.
