The Arkansas coaching staff is set to host several visitors next weekend, as the NCAA dead period is set to end at midnight Sunday.
One of those visitors is a recruit the Hogs have a bit of a history with. Marcus Wimberly is a four-star safety from Bauxite who previously committed to the Razorbacks, and he is set to visit Fayetteville on Friday.
He told Hawgbeat that he's excited to get back to the UA campus and continue talking to the Razorbacks coaching staff. Arkansas is different than other schools that have been recruiting him, as it's the home state team.
"I grew up always wanting to be a Hog," Wimberly said. "Wanting to play and run out of the 'A' and have your home state cheering for you, that's my childhood dream."
Wimberly committed to Arkansas on July 29, but walked back that decision and reopened his recruitment on Dec. 1. He told HawgBeat on Sunday he made that choice because he felt like he rushed the process.
"The biggest thing for me was I felt like I made a decision too fast," Wimberly said. "It's one of those things where you get an offer from your dream school and you think it's the best thing ever, which it is, but you just don't really take a whole lot of time to make a life-changing decision like that."
Since reopening his recruitment, Wimberly has been getting looked from several high-profile schools. He's reported offers from Ole Miss, Tennessee, Oklahoma, SMU and others.
"It's been all over the place," Wimberly said of his recruitment. "I get texts from four to six coaches a day and I'm like 'Lord I hope I responded to all of them.'"
After being given four-star status by Rivals, Wimberly ranks as the No. 5 player in the state of Arkansas and No. 9 athlete in the country in the class of 2025. He said he knows the work isn't done, though.
"It feels awesome," Wimberly said of being rated a four-star. "I've got to give God the glory for blessing me with the talent and putting me in this position. About the only thing I can take credit for is my hard work and being able to see all of that pay off, but just because I'm a four-star doesn't mean I stop working."
Following his visit in Fayetteville, Wimberly will be competing at the Under Armour Next All-American Camp in Dallas on March 10, and then will take visits to SMU, Memphis, Ole Miss and Alabama in that order.
