I'll be posting updates throughout the day today.
1:15 UPDATE:
- Arkansas will have a big-time 2017 visitor today in Waco (Texas) La Vega tight end Kedrick James, 6-6, 245, 4.8. He has family in Fayetteville including a grandparent who is a professor at the UA. He's been here since yesterday afternoon and will start his unofficial visit with the coaching staff this morning.
- I get the feeling the Razorbacks could be close to gaining a commitment from one of the prospects who's been on our 'Commit Watch' for a little while now. I could see something happening soon based on my conversations with the prospect throughout the week. Arkansas currently sits at five commitments. Camps begin in about three weeks so we'll see if they add to the list then.
- Vanderbilt is the latest to express interest in Hot Springs ATH Cleo Floyd, who owns offers from Arkansas State and Memphis. ASU claims it was the first to offer Cleo, but I think that's more out of trying to save face because they got beat to the punch by Memphis. At any rate, Floyd is a guy that we've felt might work his way into consideration for an Arkansas offer if he impresses at camp and takes care of things outside of football. Coach Lunney Jr. saw him this week. One to keep an eye on, anyway. I recommend watching his film. Not sure why he's not ranked higher, but hopefully he'll get a bump later on.
- Another in-state notable is Arkansas checking up on Bearden OL Sam Williams this week. Williams, 6-7, 290, impressed the analysts at the Rivals Camp in March. Fun to see how far his hard work has brought him. Great kid, very smart too.
- Arkansas preferred walk-on LB Tyler Phillips is now 215 pounds even though he's been in track this spring. The North Little Rock product will enroll at the UA with half of the class on May 24. As an interesting side note on Phillips that I didn't know until this week, he's actually a talented singer and sings in a choir. He said he'd be willing to give the HawgSports family a little sample on video the next time I see him in person, so I'll hold him to it. Phillips turned down offers from OBU, Air Force and Campbell to become a Hog.
- If you missed it, four-star LB Michael Divinity of Marrero (La.) John Ehret trimmed his list to 15 schools on Thursday and included Arkansas. His cousin, LB Dejon Harris, who owns an Arkansas offer and visited for the spring game, had 8 tackles, 1 carry for 25 yards and 2 receptions for 50 yards in John Ehret's spring game Thursday evening. Harris is on the Commit Watch List. Harris plans to bring Divinity, ATH Ca'Ron Baham (who also has an offer from the Hogs) and safety Jarrius Wallace to Fayetteville next month.
- Plano (Texas) East WR Audie Omotosho tweeted Thursday evening that he had a "great" talk with Arkansas running backs coach Jemal Singleton. Audie was offered by the Hogs after attending their spring game last month.
- Non-recruiting-related side note: I spoke with someone Thursday evening and was given three names that this person believes will breakout and push for All-SEC status this year. The three were Keon Hatcher, Brooks Ellis and JaMichael Winston. Obviously the source didn't mention the studs we already know about, like J-Will, Henry, Tretola, Kirkland, Taiwan, etc. I typically don't post much small talk stuff like this but felt this one was more noteworthy based on who said it.
- Kedrick James will begin his visit at around 10 this morning and wrap up at around 1:30 or so. The head man's out of town right now but is trying to make it back so he can meet the young guy.
1:15 UPDATE:
- Kedrick James said Arkansas is in his top three along with Baylor and Michigan following today's visit. He will be back on the Hill on June 19 to spend the day with the coaches before participating in Arkansas' camp the next day. His mother said she's sold on how the coaching staff keeps tabs on every kid's academic progress, and that having family in town was a huge plus to her especially. James said the visit "was more than I expected" and that he thought about pulling the trigger on a commitment, but he realizes it's still very early in the process.
