This was my first game to actually get to watch (soccer weekends with my boys the previous games). Here is what I saw:
First, we are slow and not athletic across the field. Our OL is big and strong but does not move well. We don't have a single running back with a 2nd gear. Our safeties are not top speed guys, and neither are our front 7. We just lack speed. If you saw any of the Ole Miss / Bama game - those teams have speed.
Second, we have too many misses in last few recruiting classes. Where are all the LB (Hackett, Ramsey, and others)? Where are the FB recruits and walk-ons?
Lastly, until we start beating SEC teams in the living rooms we will continue to be a 6.5 average annual win team. I'm not sure what the recipe is, because we've had different coaches of strong reputation and it doesn't translate into top recruiting classes. We've had great seasons that have not translated to top recruiting classes.
My conclusion is this. Arkansas is not an attractive school to elite (high 4 and 5 star) kids. We get a few that have a passion for staying home or find a connection but never even close to enough to where we can stack back-to-back-to-back great recruiting classes. Until this happens we are who we are.
