Qualls with 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting. Harris with 8 points (3-of-5 and 2-of-3) and 8 big rebounds, and as poorly as Portis played fo 36 minutes, he did end up with 15 points (5-of-12 and 5-of-9), 13 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block. Throw in 4 points from MK and 2 from Jacorey, and that means our frontline combined to score 49 of our 56 points.
* With his 1 block tonight, BP moved into 10th place in career blocks at Arkansas ... he now has 104. The lone swat also gave him at least 50 blocks in a season for the 2nd consecutive year.
* Arkansas' guards were exposed tonight ... Madden, Beard, Bell, Manny, and Durham combined to make 3-of-16 FGs (including 1-of-6 from 3), 0-for-1 FTs, 7 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 steal, and 5 turnovers. Madden was the backcourt stat-stuffer tonight, tallying 4 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 turnovers. I thought Madden played well in the final 5 minutes of the game, other than missing the front end of the one-and-one.
* I thought the Hogs came out strong in the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half, but due to missed FTs, missed chippies by BP, and more last-second lapses in defensive shot clocks, we were still down a point after all the hard work. If we play keystone cops against UNC, we'll lose by 15.
* Even though we lost the turnover battle -- 10 to 8 -- our pressure wore them down to the point they just couldn't get good looks, and eventually they didn't have their legs when they shot 3s. We held them to 18-of-57 from the field (31.6%) and 7-of-24 from 3 (29.2%), but the killer was the 14 offensive rebounds we gave up that resulted in some put-backs and trips to the line for them. Overall, we were out-rebounded 37-35 by a much smaller team = yikes!
* After shooting 80-plus percent from the FT line against both TN and GA, the Hogs fell off considerably against both KY and Wofford. Tonight, we were 9-of-16 (56.3%). Jekyl an Hyde at the line lately.
* Wofford's guards were so crafty with their ball fakes, pump fakes, and use of screens. It was a real struggle for them to beat our pressure, but they gave a valiant effort and coughed up only 8 turnovers.
* Qualls has emerged as Arkansas' most mentally tough player. AH is next, although biting on 2 pump fakes tonight hurt us. Still, he and Qualls were nasty in the paint most of the game.
* If BP can snap out of his funk, if Qualls continues his excellent play, if AH and Jacorey keep playing well, and if our guards can snap out of it, we can play with UNC. We've got to rebound, though, and move our feet to cut off drives. If we do those two things and turn them into a jump-shooting team, we'll get turnovers and some easy opportunities, and consequently we will be able to stay in the game.
