**DISCLAIMER: I know that there's a chance the football season won't happen this fall. I know the SEC could go to a conference-only schedule. I know there have been talks of an SEC/ACC/Big 12 alliance in order to preserve games like Georgia/Georgia Tech, Kentucky/Louisville, South Carolina/Clemson, etc.
That said, follow me down this wormhole... The Big Ten has already gone to a conference-only schedule, eliminating Arkansas State's game at Michigan on Sept. 19. I just saw on Twitter where the MEAC - an FCS conference comprised of HBCUs - is expected to not play football this fall. That means Arkansas State's game against Howard (scheduled for Sept. 12) would be canceled.
If the SEC allows non-conference games and something happens to the Notre Dame game scheduled for Sept. 12 - Maybe the Fighting Irish push the season back? Maybe they completely alter their schedule to play an ACC slate? Maybe the SEC asks its programs to regionalize their schedules? - then that could potentially open the door for an Arkansas-Arkansas State matchup this season. It's kinda comical that it took a global pandemic for this to even become a possibility, but I have heard from the Arkansas State side of things that they'd be interested in that - but duh, of course they would. Haha.
Idk, just something to ponder. I know this is a hot topic and there are a lot of people on both sides of it, but if there were ever a year when it might actually make sense, this would be it.
