The first guy I met tonight is named Bobby. Small town kind of guy. From Montana, me thinks. He saw the chick and I walk into the gym and came right up and sat next to us. We were decked out head to toe in Hog gear.
Never seen a bigger smile on BMFP's face than when he said "You know I have to come over here and say hi." He looked straight up shocked. Two rabid Hog fans at an away game of one of our recruits in BFE in Mesa, AZ. That's when it hit me. Petrino was more excited to see us than we were to see him (not really but it was really close). I was frozen and barely got out "Danny West told me you were here." I then said something to the effect of "Nobody can hide with Twitter."
Now let me explain. I went to bed at 8 PM last night, got up at 2 AM, and couldn't get back to bed. I was at the office from 4:30 AM till 7:00 PM today so my social awkwardness was peaking when Coach came over.
I digress. He sat down and talked to us for like 20 minutes. Kept mentioning that they were out here all the time. He said any time in May we could have an event and him or Klenakis would attend. Against hortswho's advice I did ask Petrino errrrr Bobby if he had time for a beer or six after the game. That got a chuckle and a "Lord knows I could use a few." I agreed that it has been a really difficult week. He kept looking at us like we were aliens. We really did stun him. Of course he liked the wife better. We took a photo op at his suggestion, too.
Then his buddy Klenakis came over and talked to us the entire second half. He is really excitable and damn funny. I can see why the prospects like him so much. He was rocking his Sugar Bowl and Hog pins.
Coach K said at least five times that he was going to hit us up for a meeting in May. Also, said he will be in Vegas next week to shore up some things. A kid came up after the game that looked like a RB. It was awesome to see them interact with people.
Didn't talk too much about football actually. Although Kelvin Fisher's name came up and he mentioned him at running back. I stepped in and said "We don't need every bad ass on Offense." Coach K agreed and the wife got off a good one. She said "His Mom wants him at cornerback so that pretty much settles it."
She does much better in these situations than I do (to compare myself - picture Sweet D dry heaving at her stand up gigs). I always say some crazy shit.
The whole thing was surreal though.
Juice Williams was there, too. He had 15 points in a loss. The only photo I took he was getting T'd up. He's a talker, but he noticed the Hog love. I have to speculate that he is our back up plan to DGB going Okie on us.
