1) This offense (which I do like) needs a play maker at QB and BA isn't one..PERIOD anyone who argues this isn't looking at his record as a starter. Also how many games we have had a chance to win in his time as a starter and he has NEVER once won one of those games.
2) Our defensive is playing horribly. We are tackling like we did in 2013, and playing very undisciplined all over the field. With a defense that is playing like this it illuminates the lack of a play maker at QB.
3) Our Special teams has been anything but special sine BB has been here. This ST coordinator by committee isn't working. We seriously make a negative game changing play in this area every single game.
There is three cogs on this wheel and they must all work together for us to win by limiting possessions and burn the clock like we do. Shortening the game is a great way to beat these high powered spread offenses, but not if you are going to beat yourself. The teams that do win like this have play-maker's at QB and that way if they get to a point where its 1st and 20 or 2nd and 15 they can still occasionally make a play. With our QB if we get off schedule we rarely ever get a first down. As soon as Kirkland got the false start I looked at my wife and said we are going to overtime and we are going to lose. Straight up as an athlete if the man that is your "leader" continually lets you down time and time again, the rest of the team will follow.
Poor time management
This begins on the sideline and we are very very bad and have been since BB has been here. TO's are supposed to be used with discretion. How many times we have to use timeouts because of not having the right personnel on the field. We don't line up right a lot on defense and sometimes we don't break the huddle until we have 6 seconds on the play clock. I don't understand how we are in year three and we still have kids that don't know where to line up.
Oh so close, but Oh so far away.
2013: 2014: 2015:
Rutgers 28-24 loss TAMU: 35-28 loss in OT Toledo: 16-12 loss
Miss State 24-17 loss in OT Bama: 14-13 loss TT: 35-24 (a lot of points left on the field in this one.)
LSU 31-27 loss Miss St: 17-10 Loss TAMU: 28-21 OT loss
Missouri: 21-14
This is a problem that needs to be addressed. All but one of these games BA has been the starter and we couldn't close out any of them. Countless times in all of games except Rutgers BA had chances to close the game out and none of them he did it.
Also, we continually shoot ourselves in the foot game after game. Then after the game its how close we are getting and how we have to correct these issues! Well at some point someone has to take responsibility for this happening and make an example out of someone and bench their tail. If we are really as deep as we have been lead to believe we are then benching someone to make a statement should be able to be done.
Penalties:
TAMU- 11 for 93 penalties
TT- 5 for 43 and 4 of those were holds that killed drives every time
- 64 plays ran by us and 4 of those Holds ended drives we average 8 to 10 plays on a regular drive. So a total of 10 to 11 possession's per game is what we average. Of those drives we ended 4 of them because we got into a 3rd and long or 4th and long. That's really poor offensive efficiency.
Toledo-9 for 85 and 4 of those were holds that put us in 1st and 20 or 2 and 15. Our offense has only converted 2 of those situations this season ( BA is completing less than 50% of passes after a holding penalty this year.)
Conclusion:
These are just some of the examples of whats going on with this team, I don't have time to get any deeper into the little things. There are plenty of other things going on right now, but these are the glaring things that in 3 years is the exact same issues. This team beats itself all the time, because the coaching, offense, defense and special teams must all work together for us to be successful and they just don't for whatever reason.
