Over the past handful of years there has been a growing sentiment among parents not to let their kids play football. As someone who played backyard football and then organized football his entire life, this struck me as ludicrous and reactionary, particularly when I first started hearing people discuss it.

I think the first public figure I heard mention it was Michael Wilbon, who had a big son with a big arm who he made stick to baseball, despite his son pleading with him to play football. It was clear that Wilbon had wrestled with the decision, but that he was not going to budge. I don't know what ended up happening with that, but I don't think the son was ever allowed to play.

Has anyone here not allowed their son to play? Currently not letting true son play? Anyone who has wrestled with the idea and decided one way or the other?

I don't have a son, but my wife and i are planning on having a couple of kids soon and as a sophomoric jock this is really the only aspect ivegiven thought to. I really just wanted to get some thoughts from people who like football, since the answer is obvious from people who don't.

I can do the soccer thing, and basketball is cool, but football was always my favorite. I hate it that this is even an issue. What say you?
