Many factors in Corione Harris' commitment to LSU

It was only a matter of time before New Orleans (La.) Landry-Walker cornerback Corione Harris pulled the trigger on his LSU commitment.
The pledge came on Saturday during LSU’s “Boys from the Boot” recruiting event. Call it an inside job.
The Class of 2018 recruit had teammate and LSU commitment Devonta Jason in one ear urging him to join him in Baton Rouge. Harris arrived on campus with Jason, who has been working on swaying his friend Harris since committing in November.
“I played probably the biggest role besides the coaches,” Jason toldTigerBait.com. “A lot of people have been trying to talk to him, but I’m with him 24-7. We’re real close and I talk to him every day about it.”
Admitted Harris: “He was about 60 percent.”
Already a heavy lean, the finishing touches came on Saturday when defensive backs coach Corey Raymond and newly-hired running backs coach Jabbar Juluke teamed up to coax the commit from Harris. Harris already knew Juluke from his days as a high school coach in New Orleans.
“Coach Raymond, Coach Juluke and Devonta Jason,” Harris said. “Coach Juluke, I’ve known him since he was at Edna Karr. I always wanted him as one of my coaches. Coach Raymond just made it feel like I was at home.”
Raymond was the first to hear of Harris’ commitment.
“He was happy,” Harris said. “He already knew it was going to happen eventually.”
From there they headed over to meet with LSU head coach Les Miles.
“The first thing he started talking about was school and making sure I had my grades,” Harris said.
LSU was the first school to offer Harris (6-1, 170) in the summer before his sophomore season, with Utah State following suit. So what does LSU like about Harris?
“I’m aggressive, young and talented,” Harris said.
With Harris and Scotlandville defensive back Kelvin Joseph committing on Saturday, LSU has five pledges for the Class of 2018 including Jason, quarterback Zadock Dinklemann and running back Justin Watkins.

LSU offer a dream for Labruzza

Albany (La.) defensive back Cheyenne Labruzza won over LSU with his talents on and off the field.
LSU coach Les Miles met with Labruzza first thing Saturday morning and extended an offer to the Class of 2017 cornerback during the “Boys from the Boot” recruiting event on campus.

“The most important things the coaches say they like about me are my leadership, my business-like approach and my character,” Labruzza told TigerBait.com. “I take the classroom seriously and that carries over to the football field. They want my leadership on that team and they love my athletic ability on the field.”
While he didn’t commit right away, the three-star defender was flattered to receive the LSU offer.
“LSU has always been a favorite school of mine and a dream,” he said. “I’ve always worked hard to be at the standard to play for LSU. At first it was a lifelong dream and now it’s a business decision. LSU is definitely one of my top schools.”
Miles scheduled his meeting with Labruzza for 9:45 a.m.
“Actually, I was the first guy that he met with this morning,” Labruzza said. “He told me that I was the first one he wanted to talk to.”
Labruzza (6-0, 180) said he’s talked to Miles before. “We have a good relationship,” he said. “We kind of caught with everything and talked about personal things. He has that genuine bond with us. As the conversation grew, he told me I had a full scholarship to play for LSU. He broke it down to me and told me he wants me to be a Tiger.”
LSU’s recruitment of Labruzza had been building toward the offer. Over the last two weeks. Labruzza said he’s talked a lot with defensive assistants Corey Raymond and Ed Orgeron.
“I kind was hoping for it and envisioned it happening,” said Labruzza, who lives about 30 minutes away from Baton Rouge. “For Coach Miles to say it himself was eye-opening and such a blessing.”
Saturday’s event also included a first meeting with new coordinator Dave Aranda.
“I met with Coach Aranda at about 9:30,” he said. “It was great meeting him. We talked about his scheme and everything and how he’s excited for the job. I’m very excited for him. I’m looking forward to see him coach and see his defense play.
“He’s a young coach and you can tell he has some tricks up his sleeve.”
Labruzza’s brother and his wife, who serve as his guardians, attended the LSU activities with him. LSU did a good recruiting job on his brother too.
“My brother has never been a big fan of LSU,” Labruzza said. “But the atmosphere and the coaches and the tradition he witnessed today made him a fan today. He really enjoyed it and got the most out of it. We met the whole coaching staff. My brother’s wife loved it too. She was smiling as much as me.”
Labruzza has collected numerous offers over the past couple of months. Ole Miss, Tennessee and Arkansas are in from the SEC. He’s also got offers from Oklahoma State, Baylor, Northwestern, Tulane, Louisiana-Lafayette, Southeastern Louisiana and Louisiana Tech.
“I’m going to Texas A&M on Feb. 28,” he said. “I don’t know the exact date but I’m planning to go to Oklahoma State and Tennessee this spring.”
LSU could be hard to beat though.
“I’m most excited about the LSU offer,” he said. “Being in Baton Rouge today and around the coaching staff, seeing the culture and tradition. … To be able to work toward and play at the standard that LSU holds is such a blessing and opportunity I’ve been presented with.”
