This whole thing really stinks and folks need to be punished for dumb things. It's hard to imagine a football at a lower pressure would have created a significant competitive advantage - say like steroids or other performance enhancing drugs - but a rule is a rule.
But this whole report to me is shaky, at best. I am a fan of the Patriots even with all the other stuff that has come down so I want to say that with full disclosure. But this whole idea of Brady knowing "more likely than not" simply isnt that compelling. But the NFL as a governing body has little to no credibility in my opinion. Nothing really ever came of Goodell's handling of Ray Rice and he never got the blame for handling that so poorly.
Tom Brady hasn't helped his cause by not turning over more information. But, with the NFL having such a damaged reputation, why would Brady want to do much more with how they have handled stuff before now? Full transparency is always a good rule but it's hard to blame him with the patterns exhibited by the NFL in other ways that may compel him to hold off.
Which would lead me - and maybe I am one of the few - to look at this as Goodell's way of being tough and the guy whose keeping the league clean. I think just about everyone from the NCAA on up need major reforms to be relevant again. This story is interesting with regard to a key piece of evidence that may show how a head referee doesnt remember what gauge he used. If he used one that is believed to have used the balls would not have been in violation. But he's not sure and the NFL sure tried to convince him it could have been the other...
