Okay, after a little bit of research and review, here are my thoughts on DeAndre Hunter, who visited this weekend.
First, I think he's underrated. In the last month, I think he's proven to analysts that he's a prototypical SF. Now, he's skin and bones right now, but that's really his only major deficiency as a prospect. At 6'7 (looked like a legit 6'7 to me yesterday), he has a nice skill game. He can score off the bounce or the catch. He's similar to Jimmy Whitt in that he's really good off the dribble and to the mid-range jumper, while needing to improve from behind the arc. Nice athleticism and effective off of straight-line drives. Long and good quickness, he's a defensive fit for our system.
Here's some video to see for yourself:

Now, about our chances. Well, it will be interesting to see what he says about the visit. As I said in yesterday's Elite Camp report, there was a family that walked in that knew a few of our players real well and also knew the guy (maybe DeAndre's brother) with DeAndre well, it seemed. There could be a connection here. Also, we've been recruiting Hunter for a long time. His name first surfaced last year, and that's longer than a lot of programs that have offered him. We are his first unofficial visit of the summer. He told a reporter recently that he wanted to go see UConn, UVA and Maryland after our visit. Just last week, DeAndre said that us, Miami, St. Joe's, Georgia Tech and UVA have been recruiting him the hardest. All this seems positive.
But, I really wonder what the Villanova offer that came last week does to all of this. That's an edge-elite program right now in his hometown that features players that like to score off the dribble, which he's said to like.
At this point, I don't really have expectations. Maybe that will change after our reporters talk to him and we learn more.
