First off last week was on our Offense this week was on our Defense. We miss Trey Flowers, Darius Philon, and Martell Spaight more than anyone could have anticipated. To my memory we have zero sacks so far this year, that's unacceptable after 3 games in. Our best LB'er is a true freshman who is having to play under sized. The rest of our LB'ers are either to slow or just flat out can't defend the pass. Our secondary forgot to come to play tonight. They were continuously beat to the edge or just ran thru. Everyone from front to back were repeatedly out of position. It all boils down to we don't have a playmaker on the defensive side of the ball.
Our offense tonight was better tonight, not great but definitely better. Allen is allen. He will make some throws that are as impressive as anyone in the country then he will throw a interception where no receiver is even in the picture. Did show a toughness tonight when running the ball rather than taking a slide. Alex Collins ran with something to prove tonight and RW3 looked like what I thought he could be coming out of HS. Our O-line play was better at times and then every once in a while half the line would miss there guys and there would be 3+ guys in the back field. When we stopped pulling guys to lead block and just ran smash mouth make holes we had much more success. We aren't quick enough on the line to pull block plain and simple. Our WR/TE really impressed me for us to be without our top 3 WR they picked up there slack...KINDA... They didn't have the bad drops that I had feared would happen but they also didn't get open deep at all. We tried to look deep again and again to stretch there defense but they just couldn't get open. I still don't like not running the ball on 3rd and 2 in the red zone with the way Alex was rolling but if not for Hunter extending his arm while arm fighting the defender this wouldn't be a topic right now. Also with being forced to pull Kendrick Edwards redshirt I don't understand not using him in the red zone for a jump ball. He has good hands and at 6'6 and a decent vertical he is being under utilized imo...
Now I haven't listened to the press conference yet but I'm sure there was some mention that everything is correctable. And on offense I agree I think it is but the lack of play makers on defense and lack of pressure were putting on the opposing QB has me extremely worried heading to SEC play. I have not yet givin up on this team bc of what glimpses I have seen on offense and what Rob Smith done late last year with the defense. But we have to turn it around this week or its going to get ugly in a hurry heading into SEC schedule...
