I am thinking about setting up a keeper fantasy basketball league. Not totally sure...depending on how quickly we could get 12-20 managers together...but i'd like to start a 100% keeper that has a college draft each season. I'm kinda partial to using Yahoo for the league site but that doesn't matter. It would be a head-to-head 1 win type.... with fairly standard settings, thought we could tweak if the group wants to. We'd set up a year-round site to keep our rosters and conduct off-season business. Maybe proboards.
The problem is...I would really like us to do an "off-line" draft. All that is, is doing the draft at the league board.....going to the board monitoring the activity, and when it's your turn...posting your pick. Then continue monitoring the draft and being ready to pick again whenever your turn comes up again-whether it's that day or the next (as opposed to a "live" draft where you probably have 90 seconds to pick before it moves to the next picker (you get "auto-picked") Off line drafts take time....but it is the best way to draft a keeper IMHO. Definitely a lot of fun over a couple-three weeks. But!! You have to have very committed managers or the whole thing comes to a grinding halt and everybody stresses out. So you have to be able to check in a lot during the draft or we'd have to be able to reach you when your turn comes up. Once we got the determined number of managers in...we would draw for draft order and start drafting immediately! We probably would set a time limit of 12 hours or so to make a pick, but if we get motivated managers...it wouldn't take near that long. I love to draft. That's probably the most fun part, so i'm always monitoring and anxious to pick. That's the kind of manager i'm hoping to find. So let me just go ahead and say....if you are really into fantasy sports (or just sports period) and wouldn't need prompting or prodding to show up and make your pick in an off-line draft scenario ..then let's form a keeper basketball league together! If you are new to fantasy ...that won't matter...we can help you learn. The season starts October 27th. That's plenty of time, but we gotta get going!
