We are approaching the final preps for the Run For The Roses. Who do you guys like? I am excited to see American Pharoah and Far Right hook up in the Arkansas Derby I always want to see a Oaklawn horse run big in Kentucky. The usual cast of characters are present with some good looking 3 year olds International Star and Mike Maker have ruled at The Fairgrounds look like serious contenders. Baffert has a pair of contenders Dortmund has been having his way with the competition at Santa Anita while he sent American Pharoah to Oaklawn where he will go off as the big favorite in the Arkansas Derby. You always think Todd Pletcher who is always loaded in the 3 year old department has a shot but he has only collleted the roses once Carpe Diem has proven he can win anywhere while Materiality took the Gulfstream route to the Derby. The horse that impressed me was Mutbaahij in the UAE Derby, I'm not sure how tough the competition was in Dubai that day but he dominated the field I think this horse adds a lot of intrigue to the first Saturday in May. I have discussed some of the big players any of which could win or a Funny Cide could crop up, all of this is what makes the Kentucky Derby my favorite sporting event of the year. I hope Far Right runs a big race this weekend Mike Smith chooses to ride him in the Derby for one of my favorite trainers Ron Moquett and they become the Funny Cide of 2015. If Far Right runs a big race in the Arkansas Derby I will key him over every horse mentioned above and hope to hit a big one.
