Picture? It's always a pit bull on the news. When in reality most of the time it is another breed. But they don't draw as many viewers.

Maybe your info will give comfort to others fearing Pits....Whenever the Pit breed is near my grandchildren they will receive my full attention

really gotta ask where were the parents...I know I was leery to have my lil girl around any dog unattended let alone one with a reputation (deserved or not) like a pit. Prayers definitely

I have a Pitt Bull and she's around kids all of the time.

To think Pitt Bull's are born to kill is just extremely ignorant. It''s the people who raise these dogs. I've had 3 in my life and none of them were bad dogs or violent.

Also, like somebody stated the media is full of shit most of the time.

Most people can't even pick a pit bull out of a line up of dogs. I've seen it several times.

Just like people hate guns. It's not the guns that kill people, it's the people. If you don't know where these dogs come from or how they were raised it's beyond idiotic to take them in.

They didn't just become bad dogs bc of what breed they are.

Some people will never catch on.

It shows your IQ level to generalize a breed of dog like that. You're ignorant as hell.

If anybody tried to take my dog from me, it'd be the last thing they tried to do.

The American Temperment Test Society shows that pit bulls pass at a rate of 82% versus the national average of all other breeds being 77%.

You and me both Sir Oinks. By the way I would never leave my 14 month old in an apartment with one woman and ANY two dogs that could overpower said woman.

Guys, you have a right to own guns and any dog breed you like, but I think I'll stick with a cap pistol and a Pot Belly Pig......Children will be safer...

If the laws would dictate that the person who owned a dog who maimed or killed another person had to suffer a very harsh penalty these people would think longer about owning one or at the very least making dang sure they were locked or chained up. Many other breeds of dogs bite, yes...but few breeds go as far as to kill. And the thought that its " only how it was raised " is a crock. Most pitbulls that attack and kill are pets...not dogs trained to fight.

I was sitting in a resteraunt in Benton one time and overhead a couple of the workers talking about pitbulls. One of her friends, who was apparently a good sized guy, was bitten pretty good by his pit, and it got his attention because it was put of the norm and it could have bitten his little boy or worse. The girl talking also said she had been bitten a few times by her pit. These dogs were pets. You may own one, and you may never have trouble....but the possibility is always gonna be there. This isn't worth having to worry about your safety much less your kids, wife, other family members, friends, or even strangers just walking or jogging down the road....which has happen to a woman in or near Conway...she died as a result of being attacked by 3 pits....a woman in PB died when their pit attacked her when her husband went next door for a while. NOT WORTH THE CHANCE......

I'm about as conservative as it gets and against the government infringing upon individual rights in just about everything. I'm also a devout dog lover who has owned many breeds and been around them all, including pits. They are wired different, almost like domesticated wild animals. I have seen it first hand.

I don't want them eradicated, but the people that own them that are in denial are just as dangerous as the people who try to make them mean. They require special treatment and an understanding of their nature to be kept safely as a pet. You people that don't see that but own them anyway are a big part of the problem.

You talking to me? I've never owned a pit bull.

I agree with everything you've said. Some dogs are just dangerous. It seems like a higher number of pits fit that definition.

I also believe that a large part of the problem is that some owners of Pits shouldn't own any dog... let a lone a pit bull.

Naw man, I was piling on the guy who questioned the IQ of anybody that would dare generalize a breed like that. Each breed of dog was bred for a specific purpose and at least for the last 40 years, pits have been bred to fight. If you are going to own a breed of dog, it would behoove you to understand the what comes naturally to the breed. Especially with pits.

That is absolutely true. Good bird dogs will come out of the womb knowing how to point! Most pick it up fast.

Herding dogs come out of the womb knowing how to herd.

It's in their genes.

I own my 4th rottwieller and bought my 2yo grandson a rottie puppy for Christmas. Lots of folks try to lump rotties into the same category as pits, and they aren't the same at all. Rotties developed as herd protectors capable of protecting the herd from whatever threatened it. Since they are very protective by nature, you don't want to look like a threat to their herd(or family). That's what they were bred to do. They are great family dogs and very protective of their kids. Pits are bred to maul any rival. It's not their fault, but that is what they have been bred to do for years. It is part of their dna. The trouble starts when they get confused as to just exactly what constitutes a "rival". Whenever that part of their brain clicks, they are going to go after that rival, real or percieved..
