If you go back through the guys we consider the greats — Broyles, Holtz, Hatfield, Petrino, part of Nutt...

- Broyles (1958-76) averaged 7.6 wins per year in 19 seasons. He had 7 seasons with 6 or less wins, three 10-win seasons, 8 seasons with at least 8 or 9 wins and one 11-0 season.

- Holtz (1977-83) averaged 8.6 wins per year in 7 seasons. He had an 11-1 season his first year and then lost 2 games each the next two years. After a 7-5 showing in Year 4, Holtz then went 8-4 the next year an 9-2 in Year 6. His final season was 6-5 showing in 1983.

- Hatfield (1984-89) averaged 9.2 wins per season in 6 seasons. After a 7-4 first season in 1984, this is how the next five years went (in order): 10-2, 9-3, 9-4, 10-2, 10-2

- Petrino (2008-11) averaged 8.5 wins per season in four seasons. The 2008 season resulted in a 5-7 record for his team. He then went 8-5, 10-3 and 11-2 before you know what happened.

- Nutt (1998-2007) averaged 7.5 wins per season. He had two years (1998 and 2006) where his team won at least eight games in a row. Outside of those seasons, the Hogs won 9 games twice and 8 games twice with Nutt. He had two losing seasons in 2004 (5-6) and 2005 (4-7).
