It is hard to focus on the players we landed when the ones that we didn't are so gut wrenching, but we are bringing in a lot of talented kids who will add star power and depth at positions of need -- which is the ultimate goal.
RB -- Not landing Porter was a disappointment, but we landed the #1 back in Texas. Think about that, with the number of quality schools in that state vying for recruits, we took the top ranked back. Throw in another Top 250 player (a rarity for us) and you've got an excellent job filling the biggest immediate need on the roster.
LB -- while we have two good players at LB, we really needed to add depth and potential in this class. I love the group we've signed -- four athletic guys with big time offers from states that produce top notch talent. I'm especially pumped about the Lousiana duo, who have instincts we have been sorely lacking at the position. Throw in Randy Ramsey, who is the equivalent of a high 4-star in my book due to his talent and familiarity with the system, and this is another home run.
OL -- This is where we dropped the ball, not with Cleveland or Porter or probably Fulton. This was the spot where we needed to get some numbers and we came up short. I know Pittman leaving put us in a bind late in the game, and the three guys coming in (plus Hays?) are quality additions, but you have to get more than one HS lineman when it's as big a part of your identity as ours is.
I'm bummed by our finish, but the studs we went after were luckily at our biggest strengths (WR and Corner, though you could argue that corner could use an injection of talent it still has a lot of experience and depth). Let's all try to remember and praise the kids who are choosing to commit a good chunk of their lives to the Hogs, and not trash the ones who made a decision they felt best for themselves.
