(SIAP) NFL won't allow an AmVets advertisement...

They are not allowing the advertisement unless it is being changed to what the NFL desires.

"Freedom of speech works both ways. We respect the rights of those who choose to protest, as these rights are precisely what our members have fought - and in many cases died - for," Polk wrote. "But imposing corporate censorship to deny that same right to those veterans who have secured it for us all is reprehensible and totally beyond the pale."

What does that have to do with the first amendment and the nfl? What law is broken?

Dude, there is no freedom of speech when dealing with a private company.

See below to refresh your memory.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances"

No law is broken. I'm not sure that was his true point. It is ironic how the NFL would allow the players to send a message by kneeling but will not allow an advertiser to message the opposite in support of veterans and the military. It's a terrible look for the NFL, IMO.

NFL is not a governmental body. So no law is probably broken. Simply the fact that the NFL is not allowing the AmVets to run a very simple message.

Agreed, but NFL is selectively choosing what messages can be sent. Allowable: kneeling and protesting the National Anthem; NOT Allowable: advertising supporting vets and miliatry and promoting standing for the Anthem. Not a good look for NFL and one of the reasons viewership is down.

that says #PleaseStand. Interesting how some 1st Amendment Rights are more protected than others - particularly from those who actually served and protected this cherished Right.

Disgusting to me.
They don’t have to let anyone advertise but in turn, I don’t have to watch or support their product. Which is what’s happening a lot!

Those guys have earned their right to say/do whatever they want within reason on the stage that they have created for themselves. If they feel like that’s a way to get a message across, great. It would be decidedly unAmerican to restrict that right.

And I’m not saying I agree with the kneeling...I’m not sure it’s gotten the message across that they had hoped. But still, that’s a clear right.

Find something else to be angry about. I am sure there are worthy causes other than the NFL. Who gives a shit.
Dude, I understand.
No you don't. If you did, you wouldn't have mentioned the 1st amendment. Try again.

I could see the NFL not wanting to push the false narrative that kneeling has anything to do with their respect for vets. After all, it was a vet that came up with kneeling as a compromise.

Sounds like a bunch of socialists on this board. Why would we want to government telling private business what they can and cannot allow their employees to say and do? Why would we want the government telling a private company who they can and cannot partner with in advertising?

Whoa...get a grip. "It's a bad look" = me being angry?? LOL A little sensitive this morning, eh?

They haven’t worked their butts off their entire lives to make the NFL? They’ve earned that stage for themselves, it’s theirs to do what they will. Just like it’s your right to not watch.

Haven’t watched a single playoff game and won’t watch the super bowl. Admittedly it has more to do with the suspension of Zeke and supporting JJ’s attack on Goodell.

I edited my initial message to be more accurate. I don't appreciate the NFL choosing one message and not allowing a tasteful counterpoint from the guys who did so much for our Country.

But our government can tell a bakery who to make a cake for!

I am sure the 35% are super pissed about this. Everyone else could care less.

Yawn. Ok.

I know someone will blast me for this. But here it goes.

Anyone can protest, whatever they want. If you do, be prepared for the backlash.
There will be one,I guarantee it.

In this case, I see their point.
I also see the point of people who don't like it.
We know the arguments for both.

Isn't it about time, for both sides to just stop? It's run it's course. Nothing new to say or do.
I'm wore out of the whole thing. Just numb.
