It's no secret that Arkansas is swinging for the fences in the state of Louisiana this year, and on Wednesday the Hogs plan to show just how serious they are about continuing to establish pipelines in the Pelican State.
The Razorbacks will have seven coaches on the road throughout the day, with as many as five of them making stops at approximately 20-25 schools in Louisiana.
Wide receivers coach Michael Smith recruits Louisiana for the Razorbacks and is expected to be joined by fellow assistant coaches Vernon Hargreaves, Rory Segrest, Clay Jennings and possibly Arkansas in-state recruiter Barry Lunney Jr..
"I've kind of heard the same thing (on it being a great recruiting year in Louisiana)," Hargreaves said Tuesday evening. "Sounds like there's a lot of players down there, so we're going to go and find out.
"We're going to go out and hit some schools tomorrow in Coach [Michael] Smith's home state, so we're pretty excited about that. We'll be in Louisiana tomorrow."
Here's another reminder of some of the targets the Razorbacks are expected to be checking on:
- Caleb Roddy | DE | Denham Springs -- Visited Arkansas two weeks ago; says the Hogs will be by early Wednesday morning
- Briston Guidry | DT | Metairie Rummel -- Committed to Arkansas; will visit this weekend
- Kristian Fulton | CB | Metairie Rummel -- Will visit Arkansas this weekend
- Isaiah Graham | WR | Bastrop -- Will visit Arkansas this weekend
- Dejon Harris | LB | Marrero John Ehret -- Will visit Arkansas this weekend; also said the Hogs will be by his school early in the morning
- Michael Divinity | LB | Marrero John Ehret -- Harris' cousin, still a chance he could join Harris on this weekend's trip to Fayetteville
- Ca'Ron Baham | ATH | Marrero John Ehret -- Owns an offer from the Hogs
Other known Arkansas targets in Louisiana include four-star offensive lineman Willie Allen of River Ridge John Curtis, four-star running back Tre Turner of New Orleans Holy Cross and many others.
The Hogs will also be checking on some of their other most-wanted 'national' targets on Wednesday.
Arkansas offensive line coach Sam Pittman is expected to be in the state of Kansas, where the Razorbacks are currently chasing heavily-recruited JUCO offensive lineman Branton Autry of Coffeyville Community College. Autry, 6-4, 320, told HawgSports.com that Pittman is scheduled to be at his school early in the morning.
Autry's offer list includes Arkansas, Oklahoma, Florida, Missouri, South Carolina, Arizona State and others. He was expected to visit the Hogs two weekends ago but didn't make the trip. He said he hasn't yet rescheduled the visit.
In other Kansas-related recruiting news, Arkansas is also expected to be in the state to check on Wichita East defensive end Xavier Kelly, who will visit the Razorbacks on June 7. Lawrence four-star defensive end Amani Bledsoe will be checked on by the Hogs early next month, according to his coach, Dirk Wedd.
The Razorbacks are also chasing big-time running back Elijah Holyfield of College Park (Ga.) Woodward Academy. Holyfield, the son of boxing great Evander Holyfield, expects to have Arkansas running backs coach Jemal Singleton at his school on Wednesday.
This will be Arkansas' second trip on the road since the spring evaluation period began last Wednesday. The Razorbacks had multiple coaches across the Natural State on the first day of the recruiting period.
As a reminder, coaches may have no in-person contact with the prospect during the spring evaluation period. Coaches can conduct academic and athletic evaluations, and since most schools haven't yet began spring drills, there will be some instances in which the Razorback coaches watch the prospect participate in off-season workouts with his current teammates.
The Razorbacks sit at five verbal commitments for the Class of 2016 entering Saturday's big visit weekend for the annual Red-White game in Fayetteville.
