June is the month that grassroots teams take off for the most part, and several national select camps occur.
As noted already here, 2018 Connor Vanover made the U16 USA team as an underclassman. They play for the FIBA games gold today, I believe. As expected, Vanover has been the last guy off the bench and only contributed a little, but just making that team is super encouraging. Will be one of the more interesting recruitment stories to follow the next few years.
Reported last night, apparently Malik Monk has withdrawn from the U19 USA developmental camp and chance to make that team. Not sure why.
The Nike Elite100 is going on right now. It's a camp for rising juniors predominately; a handful of younger guys are invited, too. Daniel Gafford (El Dorado) 6'10 post and Jeremiah Toney (LR Mills) 6'5 wing of the 2017 class are participating. Vanover was invited, too, but is with the USA team as mentioned. Toney is an aggressive scorer and slasher; a little raw skill-wise. Gafford has been talked about quite a bit here; super long, great body, and nice athleticism. Defense ahead of offense right now but good upside.
The NBPA Top 100 camp goes on next week. Haven't heard who from Arkansas will be there.
