My friend Jim Brewer, SID at UAM, posted this photo and info about this awesome photo before the Arkansas / Texas game in 1965 (in which Arkansas won). I'll let Jim explain what happened with his words in italics below.

Btw...this was the day I was born...which has to be the reason I'm a Hog fan, right? :)

The Sports Illustrated cover that wasn't . . . This photo, taken by famed SI photographer Neil Leifer, was shot with a fisheye lens shortly before the start of the 1965 Arkansas-Texas game in Fayetteville. It was supposed to be for the cover, but if you count heads, you'll see why it wasn't used. There are 12 players in the offensive huddle. Leifer put the camera on the ground, gathered the 11 starters into a huddle for the shoot and was using a remote trigger to fire the camera. Frank Broyles saw Jim Lindsey standing off to the side, and since Broyles considered Lindsey and Harry Jones as co-starters, he said "Lindsey, get in there." Leifer sent the shot to his editors who rejected it because there were too many players in the huddle. Pictured are (74) tackle Dick Cunningham, (76) guard Mike Bender, (56) center Randy Stewart, (54) guard Melvin Gibbs, (78) tackle Glen Ray Hines, (84) tight end Richard Trail, (33) tailback Bobby Burnett, (23) wingback Harry Jones, (15) quarterback Jon Brittenum, (83) split end Bobby Crockett, (37) fullback and punter Bobby Nix, and (21) wingback Jim Lindsey. Hogs won the game 27-24, still my all-time favorite Razorback game! I got this story (and the photo) from Larry Foley, whose documentary film "22 Straight" chronicles the 22-game winning streak of the 1964-65 Hogs. If you don't have a copy, you need one!
