  • Barry Lunney Jr. said they've got an idea on where they're going to go with the freshmen tight ends in terms of playing and redshirting, but he didn't offer further explanation as the players are still competing.
  • Lunney also added that they're experimenting with Mitchell Loewen, who is currently at defensive end after playing tight end in 2013, as their goal line tight end because he's 280 pounds, and they don't really have a guy like that. Asked if it was going to be a 'we're running and you know it' situation, he said don't forget that Loewen's first catch as a Razorback was a touchdown against Samford.
  • Running backs coach Jemal Singleton didn't feel it was a very good practice. He really likes what he sees out of the freshman and reiterated about his big squat numbers and the fact that he's got plenty of speed and is 25 pounds heavier than he was in high school.
  • Offensive line coach Sam Pittman discussed how they've widened Denver Kirkland's stance because on his second kick he was getting beat at times by the end on the edge, and it's because the more narrow stance leaves him more open on his outside shoulder. Pittman went on to say he's their best guy and he could play left tackle in the NFL or right guard, too. When asked about questions people have with his feet, Pittman said he's never heard that or thought that Kirkland didn't have the feet for it.
  • Pittman also said they spent the first part of practice going good versus good and then they did UTEP prep after that. Arkansas thinks UTEP is going to try to bring some craziness at them with plenty of blitzing.
  • Receivers coach Michael Smith said they're really working with Drew Morgan on being consistent and taking the practices and scrimmages to the game field. Morgan said Bret Bielema got on his tail the first two days pretty hard, with the jist of things being 'are you going to play this year or are you going to let a younger guy pass you?'
  • A lot of the coaches and players said Tuesday's workout wasn't the best day. Brandon Allen anticipated it and got the QB room up hoping they could lead by example, but the first practice since the start of school wasn't the practice they wanted it to be today.
  • Running back Kody Walker said sometimes the DBs ask him to take it easy because they can't tackle him low (to help prevent injury), but he keeps bringing it and says it's good for them.
