Razorback head coach Bret Bielema was on the SEC Coaches Teleconference at approximately 10:10 a.m. this morning. Here are the updates:
- Bielema said Kody Walker could be a 1,000-yard rusher for them. He would join Jonathan Williams and Alex Collins (twice) as backs who have topped that mark under Bielema at Arkansas.
- He quickly picked out JaMichael Winston as a guy on the defensive line who stood out. He also pointed to Jeremiah Ledbetter and all the interior guys before essentially naming the entire defensive line. He said they are 8-10 players deep on the defensive line and can have a good rotation without a huge drop off. He pointed to Mississippi State's 1A and 1B philosophy on the defensive front that he found very intriguing last year.
- Regarding Momentum, Bielema said they won three of their last four and let one get away against Missouri, but he wishes they could have played three or four more games after Texas. He said they've made a huge jump forward with the way they look physically and the way they walk. He said there's a no-nonsense attitude with this team.
- Bielema said true freshman Will Gragg is right now looking at the fifth tight end spot. They are 'very, very excited' about Gragg's future and they love the way he handled himself.
- True freshman quarterback Ty Storey was called very intelligent and is sometimes his own worst critic. He likes the way he played the last two weeks of spring and they'll see what he does in camp.
- Regarding having four teams in the preseason Top-25 from the SEC-Western Division, Bielema said he knows he's in the SEC, and whether it helps them or hurts them, he doesn't worry about the other teams in the league.
- Bielema said former Hog and current Buffalo Bill Chris Gragg is probably buying a place in Fayetteville and will live there in the off-season. He and his brother have a special relationship, and Bielema said those two people didn't happen just on accident and that they have great parents.
- Regarding the No. 2 quarterback job, Bielema said the last two weeks they made a real push to get more reps at quarterback for Rafe Peavey and Austin Allen as they battle for the No.2 job, and that took some reps away from Storey. Bielema said they were hoping to see some separation, but the truth is they both did well. He did say he'd give a slight edge to Austin, mainly because of his experience. He said Rafe probably has the best arm of all the quarterbacks but he gets erratic and needs better huddle composure at times.
