* Adrio Bailey, 6-7 SF / PF 3-star from Campti, LA ... has moved up his scheduled OV to this weekend (Oct. 16-18) per RD -- he was previously set to visit the weekend of Oct. 23-25 with Macon and Monk. Adrio's another in a long line of SF / PF 'tweeners that MA prefers for this system, and thus would be comparable to both Cameron McGriff and Eric Curry when projecting a position role on the team. This kid is a plus-athlete with agility and an explosive first step and ups to home it in a hurry, but his game so far has been more inside than out (similar to Michael Qualls' game coming out of HS in that regard). Rivals' Eric Bossi calls Bailey "one of the country's best athletes." I have not seen much at all with my own eyes, just going off numerous reports I've read. He's also listed at 6-6, 6-7, and 6-8 (varies by report), but one recruiting writer in Louisiana indicated he had grown over the summer, so I'm sticking with the 6-7 height for now.
We offered Adrio back in July, and though he is not the Plan A Top 100 type, he was 1 of the 5 SF / PF 'tweeners who we targeted back in the spring/summer (along with McGriff, Curry, Micah Thomas, and juco Melvin Swift), and thus is a Plan B when you take several factors into consideration. Adrio holds offers from the Hogs, Oklahoma State, Wichita State, Vandy, Texas Tech, Charlotte, Louisiana Tech, Tulsa, Richmond, Houston, Old Dominion and Murray State, among others, and he's also received strong interest from Iowa State.
* Andrew Gordon, 6-10 PF / C from Florida (attending South Kent School in CT) ... it has been confirmed that he will visit us the last weekend of October (10/30-11/01). Gordon, formerly a defensive end with high-major promise in football, is new to basketball and 2014-15 was his first season of competitive play at the high school level. Although he averaged only 9.8 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks in 18 minutes per game, he is muscled up and powerfully built, a plus-athlete with quick feet and quick explosive ups, and he turned the heads of recruiters from multiple high-major programs during AAU play with Team MTS (sponsored by NBA player Maurice Speights) over the summer. The Hogs got involved with him as a result of recruiting and eventually signing his AAU teammate, Lorenzo "Doobie" Jenkins, over the summer, and we offered Gordon in late September.
Gordon holds offers from Arkansas, Xavier, Memphis, Ole Miss, Richmond, Rhode Island, LaSalle, and Florida Gulf Coast, with Alabama, Auburn, Cincinnati, and Wake Forest all showing interest. Obviously not a "Plan A" recruit, but he's got a Plan B offer list with a Plan C or D resume, so even with another year to develop at the HS/prep level he's still a project in my view. But, he's a kid we've been on since the summer -- so not a desperate reach out of nowhere -- and I'm glad we are targeting a big with the size and athleticism to battle inside.
* That's it for visits that have been scheduled, but here are more tidbits on kids we've offered or shown strong interest ...
-- Micah Thomas, 6-7 SF / PF, 3-star, Huntington Prep via Memphis ... things have been quiet on the
recruiting front regarding Micah and us since September, but less than 2 months ago he was quoted
saying that us, Memphis, and Ole Miss were recruiting him the hardest. He's a composite Top 150
3-star (Rivals has him Top 100 4-star) with a Plan A offer list that includes the Hogs, Memphis,
Ole Miss, Baylor, Iowa State, Florida, and Tennessee among others. I've seen no mention of potential
visit dates or when he plans to sign. Ag may know more about this one.
-- Josh Parrish, 6-5 G, 3-star from Texas ... we offered back in the summer, but never set up a visit.
He recently committed to TCU. With what we have assembled in the backcourt and who we
still have targeted, this comes as no surprise.
-- Melvin Swift, 6-7 SF, 3-star at Trinity Valley CC via Houston, TX ... reports out there since the
spring that we were recruiting the former Houston Yates star, and at least one reports says we offered
in August. Reported offers include Texas, Cincinnati, Memphis, and Wichita State. Swift committed to
Xavier out of HS, but ended up at TVCC. I've seen no mentions anywhere of potential visit dates or
continued interest, but he is a frontcourt prospect that we showed some interest in the past 4-6 months.
This may be another one that Ag could shed some light on.
-- Dontay Bassett, 6-9 PF / C, 3-star from Oldsmar, FL ... committed to Florida on Tues.,
10/13. MA visited him and offered on the spot back in September, we made his final 4 schools
and he was set to visit us this weekend (Oct. 16-18), but eliminated us from his list after visiting
Colorado a couple of weeks ago while trimming his list down to 3 -- Colorado, Oregon State,
and Florida. Over the weekend, he trimmed his list two 2 -- Colorado and Florida -- and said
then that he'd announce his decision on Tues., Oct. 13.
