I'm not butt hurt over this class. At the end of the day, this class is our football team, like in Hoosiers that commitment deserves and demands your respect as a Hog Fan.
I do wish it had ended better, as we ALL do. Including the coaches. I know we can agree on that.
But for as long as i can remember, it was reported that we would be signing less than 20 and closer to 16. Things did change as the season went on, and that number grew when guys like Jo Jo and Edwards showed their true colors and we had exceptional play from some Juniors that want to go to the Pro's.
I believe the staff took it in stride and said, lets shoot for the moon and try to get some big time guys in with the last few spots. If we dont get them, we have 2017 to get over 20 and closer to 25. Plus, Pittman is taking off, and the NFL wants Secrest. Not the best situation to be in to finish strong.
I would guess that Kellen Dietsch or however you spell it, figured out that pittman was leaving, and de-comitted early on.
But its a reality that none of us want to accept but its the truth. When you have a year that has less than 5 SEC level kids at home, its going to be hard to hit that homerun ranked class. When you have an up year like the Springdale 5 or Warren 4 ect, you have a chance of being a top 20 or top 15 overall class.
I know some think we dont get the recruits because the staff are not good recruiters. Sometimes its like Mr Fulton said, "They never had a chance" that is REALITY. Regardless of how good a recruiter you are, it doesn't mean you can get anyone. Example - Saban vs CBB with Dejon Harris.
Having said that, Arkansas will need to out recruit teams to get that home run class, so dont mistake what I said as "being a good recruiter isn't important" I'm not saying that one bit. I'm saying that even if you are the best in the world, that dont guarantee you every recruit you go after whether you are at Arkansas or Tuscaloosa.
THINGS I LIKE - Dont laugh, but the past few years of walk ons in this state has been wonderful. This staff is really doing a job to make us all proud in regards to the relationship they have built with in state coaches, and the kids wanting to turn down free educations to be a part of what they feel is special. Try to understand your child telling you he wants to take out student loans and needs you to pay to help him walk on to UA when he could go play for free somewhere else. THEY WANT TO BE HOGS. It may not pay off each season but a healthy walk on program is the key to smaller areas like Us, Nebraska, ect. For programs like us, they are the heart that pumps the life blood of recruiting.
Needs were addressed, they will pick up a Grad Transfer or two to help more depth on O Line and we will sign 23 or more next February.
Just look at where IOWA is in the national rankings. This team had an incredible year, was one game a way from the final 4 and they didn't kill it in recruiting. Just saying, some have it easier than others, and some teams will always have to fight for every single star it gets.
I like this class, and will go hoarse cheering for them, go broke watching them, and lose sleep praying for them.
WOOO PIG!!!!
