I'm not saying it would result in a win. We all know we blew leads last year. But, given what must be a state of fragility within the team, we need a lead tomorrow. Early.
Call me an armchair psychologist,. but I firmly believe that all those heartbreaking losses, both last year and the year before, rose up in the psyche's of players like BA, Hunter, and many defensive players after we lost to Toledo. I don't think we were ready to play against Toledo. I think we totally overlooked them. And when we found ourselves behind, the pressing began. And the fear of failure. And fear of failure gets you beat. It causes you to...dare I say it...choke. And ANYONE is capable of it if enough bad experiences accumulate. Even I, in my limited varsity play in basketball and a lifetime of competitive golf understand that.
Then, the Hogs allowed Toledo to beat them twice, as the old adage goes. i certainly don't think we overlooked Texas Tech. But our kids looked so tentative. Shell shocked. Particularly on defense. Yea...we also got out schemed. And we are having to play a true freshman at Will. And J Collins isn't playing like himself probably due to a broken hand. But still...no one will convince me that total shell shock from the previous week didn't play a role in the defensive performance from last week. That was the worse our defense has looked since Auburn last year.
Which brings me back to my point. We need a lead tomorrow. Something good to happen early. BA need a lead going into the 4th Q. I tend to defend the kid...but the stats don't lie. He isn't performing in the 4th. And that's fear of failure.
Yea...we need a lead. A break. The aggies are good. But they aren't Ohio State.
And Ohio State struggled against a team we annihilated last year.
It can be done.We can turn this around tomorrow.
Just. Give. Us. A. Break!
