Under Bret Bielema, the Arkansas Razorbacks are modeling themselves after a lot of successful SEC schools, running the ball hard and often and playing a tough, smothering defensive style. Bringing in Robb Smith to coach the Hogs on defense in 2014 was just what that squad needed.
Arkansas finished ninth in the nation in scoring defense, giving up only 19.2 points per game, and finished No. 12 in rushing defense and 37th in passing defense. Those numbers are up from 58th, 79th and 67th in 2013.
Defensively, if Arkansas wants to compete with programs like Alabama, Auburn and LSU in the SEC West, then Robb Smith is the guy who can make it happen.
GOING INTO THE 2016-2017 Season ?
Arkansas returned 9 of 11 Starters back on Defense and was bringing in one of the Top Defensive
Players to EVER come out of the state of Arkansas with Sosa Agim.
SO WHAT HAPPENED ? IS it Coaching? How did this great Defense of the 2015 go Backwards?
I have told people for three years the WEALKENSS OF our Team is our LINEBACKERS ( SLOW and Can't TACKLE)......I think the injury to Dre Greenlaw ( MVP of our Defense this year is main problem?)
.......We don't have a Safety that has Santos Ramierez toughness and Liddel's playmaking ability.We haven't had a HEAD HUNTER LIKE STEVE ATWATER and K. KENNEDY is over 12 years.
They have that Safety on Campus but he keeps making Stupid Mistakes ( Cooley???)
The Defensive line is the biggest Mystery?
The Starting Left side Defensive End Tevin Beanum has zero Sacks? ( Hellurrr?) The only 2 Men on our Defensive Line who have played OK is Ledbetter ( should be our Left Defensive not NOSE GUARD at only 280) and Deatrich Wise ( playing hurt with Hand Injury?)....
#1 I would start Bijon Jackson at Nose Guard and make String Austin Capps 2nd String
#2 Start Ledbetter at Defensive Tackle with Reserves Taiwan Johnson, etc.
#3 Move Sosa Agim to starting Defensive End because he can Sack a QB...
I would put Ramsay as Top Backup
#4 Start Dejon Harris 6"0" 255 at MLB and move Brooks Ellis is OLB the positon he played
the last two years....... I would also start Ramsay at the 3rd Linebacker position to get more
speed on the Field.... Next season we would have a Linebacker group that would have size and speed?
#4 I would start DJ Dean - our best cover CORNER WHEN HEALTHY along with Josh Collins.
#5 I would start Safety DeAndre Cooley along with Josh Liddell.
That would give us a Head HUNTER that Wide Receiver's fear catching the ball
along with a Play maker in Liddell to make plays on Defense.
I can't remember a College Football team that had 9 starters back on Defense that went Backwards
the next season like our team did this year?
Coaches can't make plays and players can't change calls in a Game?
However, I think its time for our DEFENSE to Man up and start playing like they did last year???
Personally, I just think the Defense got SOFT and they don't play with that Fire they had last year...
However losing 56-3 to AUBARN might wake up our Coaches and Players that something is wrong
and they need to fix it.............You think Auburn had a Good DEFENSE? Yes, Best in Sec
with Bama? NO....That honor goes to Florida and LSU????
Arkansas is 5-3 and is about to be 5-5 with 2 Road Games to finish this season if
they can't get things turned around????
Florida has the 2nd Best Defense in the Sec AFTER ALABama.....
LSU is probably the 3RD BEST DEFENSE in the SEC and THEY ALSO are the Hottest team in the Country with the BEST PLAYER in next year's NFL Draft RB Leonard Fournette..
Go Hogs.....I had to wait a week to post THIS because I WAS SO UPSET I didn't want to be another Debbie Downer on the Board and needed time to question " What is wrong with our DEFENSE?"..
After AUBURN Humilated our players, Coaches, and Fans..........
The Media has already said "One of the Worst Losses in our Program's History"...
Ouchhhhh....... I remember McFADDEN missing the USC game and they beat us 70-14..
USC was so good with Reggie Bush they could of put a 100 on us..
That was just too much talent for USC and Arkansas didn't have DMAC thanks to his famous
TOE INJURY....
I also went to the Miami game that was 51-8...Ken Hatfield - AS JESUS WEPT......
Miami had 22 players drafted that year including Steve Walsh Michael Irving ( Wr to Cowboys).
However, I believe the 56-3 thrashing that AUBARN put on Arkansas is THE WORST LOSS IN
the program's History........
Based on Defensive returning players and a great Defensive Recruiting Class coming in
that we would of been leading the SEC Stats sheet in Total Defense, Run Defense and Scoring.
However, We are now ranked last in just about every Defensive Category?
I like Rob Smith and hate for any Coach to get fired but He get alot of money to keep this from
Happening? Our Defense seems to be getting worse not better.......
I hope Bret Bielema will take over the Defense and never EVER let this happen again.
