The Arkansas Razorbacks picked up their latest addition to the 2025 class on Monday with the commitment of three-star linebacker Jayden Shelton.

Shelton — who hails from the Dallas, Texas, area and plays for South Oak Cliff High School — was on campus to watch Arkansas’ spring game on Saturday.

Now the lone commitment on the defensive side of the ball in the 2025 class, Shelton chose the Razorbacks over offers from Auburn, Texas A&M, Baylor, Oregon and others. He took a visit to Texas A&M before coming to Fayetteville over the weekend.

Arkansas has recruited the linebacker position well in recent cycles, but finds itself light at the spot heading into the 2024 season. While Shelton can't help in that regard, his commitment should prove to be of assistance during the next few seasons. Here's what Shelton brings to the Razorbacks:

As a junior for South Oak Cliff, Shelton racked up 119 total tackles and 13 tackles for loss in 13 games last season. He also racked up two interceptions as a junior.

It's a significant jump from his sophomore year, when he totaled just 56 total tackles and one tackle for loss coupled with one interception.

What Shelton brings to the Razorbacks is a good blend of speed and power. He's not afraid of contact and does a solid job of finishing plays. He also displays good form on tackles and has a nose for the ball.

Standing at 6-foot-1, 210-pounds, Shelton's frame suggests that his weight will get closer to the 230 to 240-pound mark before he arrives on campus. Depending on how Arkansas' linebacker room looks after the 2023-24, he could carve out some playing time as a true freshman.

Shelton also plays well in coverage. From watching his tape, he shows horizontal speed and reads the quarterback's eyes well to allow for him to make plays on the ball.

Shelton has his official visit to Arkansas scheduled for June 21-23.

The Arkansas coaching staff is not done recruiting in the class of 2025, so stay tuned to HawgBeat for the latest news in Razorbacks football recruiting.
