I heard a guest on Bo's show the other day bring this up and the more I look at the 2 teams, the more I agree. Why is Auburn considered so much better than A&M this year? I still can't figure out why there's such a big difference in perception coming into the season with A&M and Auburn.
- Both teams went 8-5 last season
- A&M won on the road against Auburn
- Auburn finished the season 1-4. A&M finished the season 3-2.
- Both teams have inexperienced, but highly ranked QB's coming out of HS.
- Both teams struggled on D last season (Auburn finished 9th, A&M 14th in total D), but hired big name DC's to fix the defenses
- Both teams run high tempo, spread offenses
- Both have recruited highly ranked classes the last 3 to 4 years
And, yet Auburn is getting top 5, and SEC championship buzz, while the other is picked to finish 6th in the West.
Why the big disparity? Does the media think that much more of Gus/Muschamp than Sumlin/Chavis?
Either we're really underrating A&M or we're really overrating Auburn. Both teams will have similar seasons, IMO. If both were stocks, I'm buying A&M and selling Auburn, based on where the media is voting them.
