No one was more excited about the Friday commitment of Scranton (Pa.) Lackawanna C.C. linebacker Kapri Doucet than his teammate, and fellow Sooner offer Emmanuel Beal. So excited that Beal made the decision to publicly join his friend on Oklahoma's commitment list about 48 hours later.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Beal may have committed after Doucet but it seems that he had a good idea he was going to end up at Oklahoma even before Doucet's choice.

"I knew, I had a feeling I was going to commit there, I just wanted to see the housing, football, and everything like that," Beal said. "When Kapri committed, I’m pretty sure everyone knew what was about to happen.

"Basically Saturday night I was talking to coach (Tim) Kish at dinner and I let him know and he just held it until Sunday morning to tell coach (Bob) Stoops. I was going to let (Stoops) know Saturday and coach Kish said why don’t you wait until Sunday morning to surprise coach Stoops?

"Coach Kish, he almost cried, he was really happy. Not just because we’re from the same area in Ohio."

The connection between Doucet and Beal is something the coaching staff at Lackawanna couldn't help but notice. To the point that the duo came to share a nickname.

"I don’t know how we got it, I don’t know which one of the coaches came up with it," he started. "We’re going to stick with it, we’ll be Looney Tunes in Oklahoma."

The commitment of his friend, as well as Oklahoma's tradition, have been thought to be the main reasons behind his decision. According to Beal, while those things both helped, they weren't the only answer.

"Really it was more of the defense that attracted me, I’m a defensive player. I visited other schools but when coach called me I was thinking about how I'd fit. I don’t really care about the name, I was going to go to New Mexico, their defense fit me well. If you play well, you can get to the next level no matter where you are," he said. "Now of course, it’s a no-brainer, that’s one of the best schools ever."

Though he'll arrive with his buddy in Norman next January and the two have already begun to talk about preparing for the trip over the next few months at Lackawanna that isn't to say that he wasn't able to build a bond with his future teammates as well.

"The players are great. They made me feel comfortable from the moment I got there," he said. "They weren’t trying to push me off the side. It was a real together atmosphere even with the other coaches.

"Coach Kish is just real, he is one of the realest coaches I've ever met."

And though Doucet's future role isn't 100-percent clear, for Beal he says the path in front of him has been explained in precise detail.

"They told me where the empty spots are. They were saying you come in, you are going to work and that they want me to play WILL. They were clear that everyone is going to work hard, just because we lost linebackers doesn't mean you have a pass. You are going to have to come in and work," he said.

Beal says that he ended up at Lackawanna thanks to ample amounts of research online following a strong athletic, but lackluster academic, career at Reynoldsburg, Ohio. And though his current offer list may not overwhelm, out of high school he had attention from one of the nation's elite programs.

"I was in high school, I was ineligible my senior year. With me being from Columbus, there are no JUCOs. I didn’t know where one was. I did my research and I found Lackawanna and next thing you know I was there playing football," he said.

"In high school, Michigan State was going to offer me and I was going to commit on the spot. I took a visit, it was great I loved it but once they saw my transcript they just couldn't."
