This is far enough away that it doesn’t matter right this second, but could be something to monitor.
I was told by a very strong source that John Calipari will be out at the end of this year if the team is “average” again. The issue is determining what “average” is for UK. The thinking right now is anything short of a second weekend birth wouldn’t be acceptable.
Why is this relevant? Because Mitch Barnhart has a strong set of candidates on his short list:
1) Scott Drew
2) Eric Musselman
3) Nate Oats
The source also indicated that Drew or Oats are much more likely than Muss, but it’s something to at least be aware of. Especially since Minnesota, Arizona, and fans of most programs with job openings connect Muss to the opening.
But, I’m also not very high on Kentucky this year, so we could see a Calipari-less SEC in the very near future.
