If the Dow is moving most everything else is moving. The Russell is the only lagger at this point. That said it really doesn't matter for a stock picker unless you are playing and etf or index fund.
Dow was at 7,949 the day Obama was inaugurated in 2009 and a little over 18,200 on the day before Trump was elected I'll never forgive the man for presiding over an economy in which my 401K did fantastic!!
Yes, there are more accurate indices to measure the total market. But let that sum
continue to surge and see what happens to most people's finances.

What was it 6 months before the inauguration
11,300 in early July of 2008.....began to plummet when all Hell broke loose with the financial markets in the fall of 08. The beginning of the Bush Recession.
Bush had nothing to do with it other than be in office when it happened.
AIG running out of money insuring bad loans is what cratered the evonomy.
Everything was set in motion well before Bush was elected
