Arkansas had its first open practice of Week 1 on Monday afternoon and the media was let in to view four periods of action for around 25 minutes total. The team practiced outside on the two outdoor practice fields as it was sunny and mid-80s in Fayetteville.

Here are a few takeaways and tidbits from what I was able to see:

Monday practice takeaways (8/28):

~ Arkansas practiced in shells and shorts on Monday afternoon. The weather actually felt really nice and the team began practice outside and remained outside for the duration of the viewing period after holding all of last week's practices inside the Walker Pavilion.

~ Some notable things include linebacker Antonio Grier returning to the practice field and Brady Latham continuing to be a non-participant. As of now, I'd expect both to be able to play Saturday.

~ Arkansas began with a swing pass drill in period 1, transitioned to fastball starts in period 2 and then finished with two individual drill periods.

~ There was once again a long list of players not participating during the media viewing portion of Monday's practice. If we know the reason they are out, it's in parenthesis. If we don't know why they are out, the reason for them not participating is undisclosed at this time. Here are the names I saw, but it's not limited to this list

OL Brady Latham
OL E'Marion Harris
OL Luke Brown
OL Terry Wells (pec)
DE Jashaud Stewart (heel)
WR Sam Mbake (knee)

~ On the day that the team released the Week 1 depth chart, it was a great opportunity to see how much the depth chart was represented during the 11-on-11 fastball period.

~ Ty'Kieast Crawford ran with the first team offense at right guard and Josh Braun moved over to left guard with Brady Latham out. Amaury Wiggins was the fill-in with Latham out last week.

~ Andrew Chamblee continued to run with the first team offense at left tackle over Devon Manuel.

~ Jaheim Thomas played as the first team linebacker over Pooh Paul and Hudson Clark moved from second team safety to second team "HOG," or nickel. TJ Metcalf stepped up at second team safety and Jaylen Lewis, who is usually second team HOG, did not participate in fastball.
