The link below will take you to a department of energy order regarding the Texas power grid and a request for permission to spool up additional generators prior to the disaster event. Key take aways from the order:

1. Additional generators would create additional emissions into the atmosphere.
2. To reduce the emissions, permission was only granted once it became absolute necessary.
3. Texas was still liable to offset emissions after the emergency event.

Effects of the order:
1. By the time ERCOT ordered the additional generators to be brought online the equipment had frozen and they were unable to operate.
2. Millions of Texans were left without power and dozens have died as a result.
3. Production of goods came to a grinding halt and we have not yet begun to see the consequences of that.

This makes me very upset. Upset at both the DOE and the cowardice of ERCOT. ERCOT and the State government were completely aware that they would not have enough power for this event. After they received a response to their request they should have fired the generators immediately and dealt with the consequences after. Now over 40 Texans have died and the damage will be astronomical.
