Arkansas has never signed a player from the city of Aledo, Texas, at least since Rivals started tracking recruiting classes in 2002, but the Hogs are trying to get two in the class of 2024 in Jaden Allen and Chris Johnson Jr.

Allen committed to Arkansas on April 21, and he was with Johnson while he was on an official visit over the weekend. Johnson said Allen has been working hard to get him to commit to the Razorbacks.

"Playing with a childhood friend in college would be a really big deal," Johnson said. "For it to be a dream that could become a reality is a really big deal."

Along with the push from Allen, Johnson said he's also feeling it from the Arkansas coaching staff as well, something that's been happening for a while.

"They've always been showing love since the beginning," Johnson said. "Since I first got my relationship with coach Wilson. Coach Pittman, coach Wilson, even other coaches always sending me letters. All showing me love. That is pretty cool."

Johnson, a three-star cornerback in the class of 2024, said he's going to announce his decision on July 4 and will be choosing from Arkansas, Arizona State and Oregon.

Notably not among that list is Louisville, where his father, another defensive back by the same name, played before a nine-year career in the NFL.

Johnson's father started out playing in the JUCO ranks before transferring to Louisville, though, and the idea of trusting the process was something Johnson said he learned from his dad.

"My dad didn't have an ordinary route, coming from someone who had to take the back door," Johnson said. "Coming from JUCO route then Louisville. When he told me trust the process it really meant something. Coming from someone that had to actually trust the process and work to where he got it just means a little different."

Aledo won a state championship with a 52-14 win over College Station during Johnson's junior season. He was named Second Team All-District with two interceptions and 29 tackles last season, two of which were for loss. He recorded two fumble recoveries as well.

Johnson said he will likely go public with his decision around 7 or 7:30 p.m. on July 4.
