Arkansas forward Trevon Brazile logged a high-flying, electrifying double-double performance during the 90-77 win over the Vanderbilt Commodores at Memorial Gymnasium on Tuesday evening in Nashville.
The game marked Brazile's first double-double of the season and his efforts were key for the Hogs, as he scored a season-high 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field and a 3-of-5 showing from three to go with 14 rebounds, two blocks, two assists and two steals.
According to HogStats, Brazile is the first Razorback to record 16+ points, 14+ rebounds, 2+ assists, 2+ blocks and 2+ steals in an SEC game since Nick Davis did so against Vanderbilt on Feb. 7, 1998, inside Bud Walton Arena.
It was Brazile's first double-double performance since he totaled 13 points and 12 rebounds also against Vanderbilt in the first round of the SEC Tournament last season. The 14 rebounds were his most since he had 17 boards against Stanford on Nov. 22, 2023.
Brazile's first highlight reel play came early on in the first half, when he drove the lane, cocked back the basketball and slammed it home right in the defender's face.
The only other made field goal in the first half for Brazile was an arguably more-impressive slam dunk, as he stole an inbounds pass and drove for a windmill dunk late in half to extend the Razorbacks' lead over the Commodores.
"At practice all the time, we talk about trying not to just do a regular dunk on fast breaks, especially one like I had," Brazile said to SEC Network postgame. "So I was just trying to get my teammates going and I felt like it worked."
Brazile came out of the halftime locker room firing from deep, as the 6-foot-10 forward knocked down a pair of triples before the first media timeout. Naturally, his next made field goal was an aggressive put-back slam over another defender's head.
The cherry on top for Brazile's offensive barrage was a corner three with 1:33 left on the clock that brought a swift end to a brief 7-1 run by Vandy. It was a big bounce-back performance for him after he was 0-for-4 from the field with just two points, six rebounds and three turnovers in the 19-point loss at South Carolina on Saturday.
“I’m happy for Trevon, it’s been an up-and-down road, but I keep telling him ‘You got stuff that a normal guy doesn’t have. Now bring it,’” head coach John Calipari said postgame. “And I told him ‘I’m going to hold you accountable, even though you play well I’m still going to get on you to listen, to focus and lock in. To go after every ball.’”
Arkansas will close out regular season play Saturday at Bud Walton Arena against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The game is set for an 11 a.m. CT tipoff and it'll be televised on SEC Network.
