Intersting topic on ESPN’s Get Up this morning:
100% of Sweet 16 is Power 4, SEC (7), B1G, Big 12, ACC. ZERO Mid Majors. So the topic was will we see a Mid Major making deep ( elite 8, Final 4) runs or is it over? The point being NIL, prevents The Mids from keeping THIER teams together. They used Step Curry as an example. The “Baby Faced Assassin “ burst on the scene and averaged 21 a game for Davidson, the next year he averages 30 and Davidson makes Elite 8. In todays Nil world , he would have been offer $$$ and Major Conference experience after the 21pt per game showing the previous year. And, Almost every team in this years sweet 16 has at least 1 Non-Power player transfer on the roster and contributing. Mid Majors are what JCs were in the past, with better players and coaching, to feed the Power 4-5. ( For basketbsll, I consider Big East a Power Conference, but SOMEONE knocked THIER 2 seed out!!!!!)
What are your thoughts? I think we will still see some sweet 16 mid majors, but much fewer and further between. ( Colorado State missed by a whisker)
Oh and SEC with 7 of 14 teams entered left. Pretty legit ! ( I’ve two in the final 4 in my bracket, plus the Champ being SEC)
