Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn provided a status update Tuesday on junior starting pitcher Gage Wood, who exited Sunday's win over Michigan at Globe Life Field with a shoulder injury.

Van Horn revealed on his pregame radio show that MRI results for Wood were good, but there is an "impingement in there of some sort" in the shoulder that Wood will have to rehab to get swelling down.

"What I had mentioned to me would be maybe the quickest we would see him back would be three weeks," Van Horn said the win over Grambling State on Tuesday. "The longest, if everything goes good, would be five-to-six weeks. Just had an impingement in there. The MRI didn't show any tears, any damage from what I've been told. Now he's got to get the inflammation down in there and build back up. Knowing Gage, it'll be shorter than longer, because it's hard to out-work him."

That timeline would put Wood back by roughly the South Carolina series (March 21-23) at the earliest if all goes well.

Wood struck out six of the 10 Michigan batters he faced through two innings before he left the mound after a warmup pitch prior to the start of the third inning. Van Horn said the injury was not something that had previously popped up.

"There hadn't been any concern," Van Horn said. "I had a few things explained to me about what he does, but no, there has been nothing with him."

The Batesville (Ark.) native struck out a career-high seven batters across five innings of two-run ball in his first start of the season Feb. 15 against Washington State.

Wood appeared in 22 games and started three as a sophomore in 2024. He had a 4.46 ERA across 40.1 innings pitched with 56 strikeouts and eight walks.

The Razorbacks will host Charlotte starting Friday for a three-game series at Baum-Walker Stadium in Fayetteville. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. CT and it'll stream on SEC Network+.
